STORYLINE:
Thousands of people lined the streets of Soweto on the outskirts of Johannesburg on Sunday to bid farewell to the Ghanaian football team.
The Black Stars had carried the hopes of a continent by becoming the only African side to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.
Ghana fell just short of becoming the first African team to qualify for the semi-finals of a World Cup when they lost to Uruguay on penalties in Johannesburg on Friday.
The Ghanaian squad also visited Soweto on Saturday, paying their respects to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, ex-wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela.
They later met Mandela himself in his house in the Houghton suburb of Johannesburg.
Ghana were due to fly home later on Sunday.
