Cortez The Killer

He came dancing across the water
With his galleons and guns
Looking for the new world
In that palace in the sun.

rectangle 300×250

On the shore lay Montezuma
With his coca leaves and pearls
In his halls he often wondered
With the secrets of the worlds.

And his subjects
gathered ’round him
Like the leaves around a tree
In their clothes of many colors
For the angry gods to see.

And the women all were beautiful
And the men stood
straight and strong
They offered life in sacrifice
So that others could go on.

Hate was just a legend
And war was never known
The people worked together
And they lifted many stones.

They carried them
to the flatlands
And they died along the way
But they built up
with their bare hands
What we still can’t do today.

And I know she’s living there
And she loves me to this day
I still can’t remember when
Or how I lost my way.

He came dancing across the water
Cortez, Cortez
What a killer.

  1. This song flows and is lazy perfect, I mean that in the highest compliment. What a influence this song was ,unbeknownst at the time, on future bands and songs. 10/10 will revisit. This one is for the pot heads 🤣

  2. Insane!! I have loved Neil Youngs songs for years, and known about him since I was 10 in 1976. But have actually never herd this one before. And now its my favourite. Isn't it just fab when someone you have known and loved for decades, have songs you never have herd before. It's like finding a long forgotten christmaspresent

  3. I’ve never heard this track from Neil Young before .
My maternal side is Peruvian, and hearing and feeling this track brought me to tears….
I feel I cry for my ancestors…, so so Beautiful!
    Words do no justice!

  4. This is a safe zone for me to go to. It levels me out n makes me think of people I've loved n are gone and to realize were here only a short time and to make the best of this life now!
